ASHE and Powered for Patients Launch Roadmap to Resiliency Initiative to Improve Resiliency at Nation’s Hospitals
In 2016, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, a personal membership group of the American Hospital Association, and Powered for Patients launched Roadmap to Resiliency, a joint initiative to help boost emergency power resilience at America’s hospitals.
ASHE has long been focused on the critical issue of emergency power resilience, an interest fueled by its partnership with Powered for Patients.
The Roadmap to Resiliency initiative created an important dialogue around the role of hospitals and other health care facilities in maintaining power through best practices including the use of advanced technologies such as cogeneration and microgrids.
Several sessions at ASHE’s 2016 PDC Summit explored these and other issues. The Roadmap to Resiliency white paper, co-authored by ASHE’s Jonathan Flannery and Powered for Patients’ Eric Cote, was published in 2017. The white paper detailed best practices and laid out a framework for moving beyond compliance with minimum codes to adopting code-plus best practices relating to maintenance of emergency power systems and providing government officials and utilities with an early warning at the first sign of a threat to emergency power.
The initiative was sponsored by Eaton and Blue Pillar, two leading companies supporting advanced backup power systems through innovative technologies.
